Sound Design For Animation – Creating A World With Sound

In this project, we created sound design for animation. The company  Attraction! contacted us with an interesting job of creating the sound from scratch for their teaser animation. They gave us raw animation and we started working.

HOW WE CREATED A WORLD OF YOKE THE YETI USING DIFFERENT SOUND DESIGN ELEMENTS

The first thing we always do is we watch the whole video and distinguish the main points where sound will carry the action. We decided that the first thing we should focus on is the main character.  Our goal was to make him “alive” by giving him different elements of sound (voice reactions, footsteps, and sound effects). The next step was to choose the music that would be a good fit for this goofy yeti and added funny characteristics to the situation he got himself into. After the animation team sent us the final video, we added background ambiance, more sound effects, and assemble it all to complete sound design. Soon as all elements of sound image were laid down we proceeded to the final step which was mixing and mastering. We created and delivered the final sound in stereo and 5.1 formats.

CHALLENGES WE ENCOUNTERED WITH WORKING ON THIS PROJECT

Creating a sound design for animation is a challenging yet beautiful work to do. We enjoyed breathing life into this one. The most challenging part of this project was definitely communication between the animation team and our sound team. We started working with basic raw animation that hasn’t had a lot of details. Our focus was on the main character and making his sounds. After the final animation was delivered we added more details like background ambiance sound and sound effects of the final logo. Good communication was crucial to get to good final results and complete everything on time.
